dude there is nothing called crabcore.. it was a word invented to describe the shitty band that in which one of the losers does a gay lame pose.

anyway i like core i guess.. not all .. there are the good bands and the posers.. but i still dont know what makes something 'core'

Ironic. Was watching that Attack, Attack video on another forum on a fairly similar thread. Those poses really are quite something.

I think the definition of "core" in the first post on this topic is rather mono-dimensional and, forgive me for saying this, hair-brained.

I like metalcore, deathcore, mallcore, sumeriancore etc etc.. Those tags don't account for much really and within each of those genres are bands astonishingly good and abysmally bad. Which, come to think of it, is pretty much the same case for every other sub-genre in metal.

Clean vocals, breakdowns, beatdowns, bree-brees and all of that can be done brilliantly and if that contributes to a good song then the genre tags or snide comments of elitists\traditionalists (c'mmon guys what are you overcompensating for ??) don't mean shit.

The question, in case it wasn't clear, was: Why the whiny bitch vocals? How is this metal? Why is it being used with distorted guitars and chops that have evolved from years and years of metal history? Maybe the 'core' reference was incorrect but the question was, is there anything to this atrocious music that I'm missing?

You don't like core and more specifically clean chorus core a la Atreyu and that's fine.. I feel the same way when I listen to Led Zep, AC/DC and Def Lepard.. Hell I used to detest the 'nasal, whiney' vocals of Dickinson and Halford.
My grand dad and colleagues ask me why I'm listening to a mad man bark, grunt, growl and scream.
Bit of a conundrum really. I think you might be referring to the Hot Topic bands with their skinny jeans and streaked hair and vibgyor tattoos..
How anyone can stand them is a bit like asking how you and I can stand Erik Rutan growling for an hour while Derek Roddy blasts away.
