Battle Hymns - re-recorded - Manowar Forget depressive (for the record I hate the word depressive. It sounds just plain stupid) black metal and emo and leonard cohen and the cure. This is one of the most depressing albums ever recorded. It's like less of an album and more of a testament to the futility of nostalgia and how pointless revisiting the past is. It's also a sign that Manowar are TOTALLY out of ideas something that was amply demonstrated by the turdlike Gods of War, an irredeemably boring album with tons of spoken word bullshit, orchestral farting and very little actual metal.
To be fair, Eric Adams still has a pretty good voice, but this album proves just how much it has deteriorated over the last 30 years or so. Terrible and unnecessary. Kinda like the holocaust.
Yeah this release totally stinks. They should've left well enough alone. I don't understand why bands think it's a good idea to re-record their classic albums.

Yngwie - Relentless: Malmsteen needs to a) Fire Ripper Owens b) Get someone else who has actual ideas to help him with songwriting c) Get a good keyboard player/bassist d) Stop putting out albums if he can't do all of the above. This is ridiculously bad. Just like the last one with Ripper.
Actually Ripper isn't part of Malmsteen's band yet. He's just a hired gun. In his interviews he even states that he has no idea whether the album would be released with his vocals on them or whether there would be vocals on the album at all. And Malmsteen is an ego maniac. He never lets anyone help with songwriting. Check out Jeff Scott Soto's latest interview. It's a brilliant eye opener. Either way Malmsteen hasn't released anything good in ages.
