The loved ones is awesome. It fools you with that one annoying "am i not pretty enough" song and then gets you!
I liked social network but i don't think it's brilliant. Basically because Zuckerberg's tale could have, perhaps, been told outside the idiom of jealousy. But i dunno how. And it's well-made. Fantastic score. I am sure the oscars will ignore it for the sounds of some 2 violins.
I've been seeing a lot of films, of late so i'll try listing a few. Can't be so descriptive with stories. Too much typing.
Madeo (mother) - By Korean director Joong Ho Bon. Master film-maker. This is a thriller about a mother whose son has been accused of murder.
PLEASE chck out his other films - Memories Of Murder and The Host. Both fantastic. MoM is a murder mystery again and I was reeling under the film for a good time after it got done. The Host is sci-fi but it just takes so much into account apart from just the fact that there is a monster!
Four Lions - If you've not seen it yet, YOU MUST! It's hilarious - a bunch of UK residing pakis and a white guy who thinks he is a radical muslim plan to contribute towards 'the cause' by a locally-inflicted act of Jihad. It's funny, it's satirical and has an ending that just rests this case perfectly. I think everyone's gonna like this one.
Revanche - Austrain drama. Tight as fuck.
Haute Tension - Alexandre Aja's only good work in my opinion. He lifts from a book shamelessly, I hear but that's a tight film, till you know the twist. So that just leaves the last 15 minutes where his stylistic to and fro kinda kills it for me.
Valhalla Rising - Watch it. I dunno if you'll like it. But the photography is quite good.
Holy Rollers - Jews in a drug cartel. Goos film.
Better Things - They used real drug addicts for this film. Bleak. Strangely satisfying.
Everything's gone green - Everything was going right for this indie flick about a slacker till it kinda ended, i dunno, chick-flick happy? It's not so bad maybe.
The Lookout - Thriller. This guy gets caught in a heist. Has some good parts.
Also, i dunno if he forums were around when I saw Hedwig and The Angry Inch. I hate musicals. But this is from the maker of shortbus, a musical and about a transexual. I hate shortbus. But what I saw blew my mind. The director also plays the principal character. Fucking ace.
Ghost Writer - Polanski. Not his finest but pretty decent.
I'll get back with some more, next week!
Just finished watching Four Lions. I really liked it. Clever and funny without being condescending or too slapstick.
