Let me regale you with stories from my eating out/ordering in the last few weeks. So, since my entire family is in Bangalore, here's what i've been up to, albeit, what i can remember:
- Gostana's, Pali Hill, Bandra: Quick update. They've moved to a bigger location in Pali Hill. Easier to find, roomier, brighter, and with a small outdoor seating area as well. The menu remains the same tho, still offering the 'healthy' burgers & sandwiches with some shakes & salads to satiate the veggies. Ended up sitting inside, next to the owner's dog, Apple (cute lab) and right in front of the food station. Between the two of us, we called for a Beef Burger (for me), a Veg Burger (some variant, couldn't care what it was - for her), and a Choco-coffee shake (meant to be split). The beef burger was passable at best - the bread still crumbles way too easily, and the patty too thin for my liking. The Choco-Coffee was better than the tripe served up at McDonalds, though nothing when compared to Mochas, or even Costa. Ended up paying around 490/- for the meal, which is a rip off. Again, Gostana's, you do not make burgers - call them healthy sandwiches.
- Theobroma, Bandra & Colaba: Food for the Gods, apparently. Well, i didn't know the Gods ate overpriced, overvalued shit. Had a New York Style Baked Cheesecake, which was far too rigid, mouldy, and frankly, old - this was at the Bandra branch. Had a decent Chocolate Mousse in the Colaba branch. Nothing fantastic to write home about. Not worth the high prices.
- Baghdadis, Colaba: From a review i penned on Burrp
Quote:
"When your mind goes blank in the pouring rain,
And you can't get back on your feet again
Well, your girlfriend tells you that the world is dead
And it just ain't working inside your head..."
Whenever i feel as implied by those words from the new Monster Magnet album, i can't help but search out some grub at Bagdadi's. Been frequenting this shady, yet trendy hotel in Colaba since college, and i must say that it keeps dragging me back.
Be it the ease and quick service, the juicy chicken legs with a tandoor aloo, or the chewy chunks of beef to be had with the enormous roti, the food here does not disappoint, especially considering what you end up shelling out. Do try their caramel custard - its saccharine sweet, though always served warm (not that i'm complaining - the damn thing manages to hit the spot after a meat heavy meal).
And if you'd rather avoid the aam junta food, order one of their daily specials. Especially the white chicken that's available on Tuesdays.
- Dargeeling Style Momos, Khargar: Yes. Dar-G-eeling. Not a typo. A redi on Khargar Node, but the best fucking momos i've had in all of Mumbai & Navi Mumbai (not that i've had many). Extremely value for money - Its 30 bucks for 8 momos, and fantastic to taste. Recommended.
