Barring the actual 'interest in the field' aspect, if you see Kaustubh's grades, it becomes easy to deduce that jumping to any field would begin with the institution sending him a chauffeured car to pick him up from the airport.

My grades were pretty fucked up in engg. It was the projects I had which backed me up well.

^Can't blame anyone for having poor grades in engineering. It's soul crushing the way they do it in India. I managed a 70%+ average through engineering, but I'm more proud of the turd I made this morning than I am of that (edit: I mean bachelor's. I'm proud of my master's). I'm not impressed by the Goody Two-Shoes types that bust their butt to get good grades without really having a passion for what they're learning. Give them different subjects in a completely different field and they'd be the same way. I find those people really creepy.

But people who love what they're doing, for whom the grades are an afterthought, I highly respect. And people who do core science work like cryptic is here are top tier badasses. In a world filled with douchebags and fucktards, I thank people like you for dedicating your time and efforts to expanding human knowledge.
