Only as far as Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew, but the man's a musical Midas.

Musical midas for sure, and can you imagine the talent he had in both his 'quintets'?

Actually, I had no idea until pretty recently. Feel like a bit of an idiot, having listened to Coltrane & Hancock for what seems like my entire adult life. You could've told me of a third quintet with Django Reinhardt and it would've left the same impact.

Yeah, out of all these, I love Herbie Hancock the most. Have you head River: The Joanie Letters? What a beautiful album, even at this age.

Never heard much of Miles Davis. Never found him funky enough for myself. But i totally love his Ex-GF Betty Davis, who also once dated Jimi Hendrix and is credited for much of musical influence to both Miles and Jimi.

Dhyani, with all due respect, please do not interject where your knowledge isn't good enough. Miles Davis isn't "funky enough" you say? What tosh! Please listen to the Bitches Brew album.
And that is not to say that you can't say that Miles Davis is rubbish or anything like that, but atleast have the right reasons for them.

@ Metalaxxe, I never quite liked the jazzy kind of sounds and so they dont do the funk for me. I preffer either rock-ish (Lenny kravitz, Jimmi Hendrix, RHCP,extreme, RATM and some 80s-90s new wave bands etc) or electrocnica-ish(couple of albums of Jeff beck, Prince and even Michael Jackson, and some other random electronica funk) funk. Only way i can appreciate jazzy kind of funk is when its more like soul or RnB like Green Onions and other 50s-60s soul artists.
Hence, Miles Davis never worked for me, and was never funky enough for me. Betty Davis, on whose records sometimes people from Miles's Band would be playing, sounds funk-ier to me. I like it when the focus is not on displaying virtuosity and knowledge of music, but strictly on the groove. Thats when funk, or any other genre of music works for me. Usually in Jazz so much is happening that it becomes difficult for me to apprehend it. Hence im rarely able to enjoy jazz, unless its just couple of people jamming. Thats perhaps why I love the 30s-50s Delta Blues, cause theres so less much happening, its neat and out there.
However thanks for suggesting the Miles Davis listening. Listening to it justnow. However even after listening to couple of songs from it, I would still ahve to stick to my original stand. Please suggest me something more on the lines of my taste, if you can.
