I've never understood the BAN-DsO link. I'm a huge fan of both and have followed them for a long time - especially BAN - but I'm hard pressed to find much similarity there. They're both dark obviously, but BAN is more of an alienated and on-the-fringe-of-lunacy aesthetic. DsO is just plain malevolence.
EDIT: The reasons ppl have started hating on DsO are beyond ridiculous. I know you've never had much time for them, Obi Wan, but the other night, a dear friend whose tastes and opinions I respect a lot was raving against DsO and how they have a very immature way of expressing their ideas and so on and so forth. How the whole "orthodox Satanic" theme negates the supposed existence of any free thought and will on the band's behalf. Maybe they took the orthodox, bible-derived thing a bit too far on Si Monumentum but I thought that was the whole point of the exercise - mockery using the enemy's own weapons. And they achieved a fairly unrivalled effect for 2004; the concept has been bastardized and every tom, dick, harry band has started doing it. But for the time, it was novel and fucking skin-crawling.
And then they went on and did Kenose, Fas, and Chaining..Even looking at those records from a purely philosophical pov, there was some intense thought put into it. Maybe ideas were regurgiatated from old literary sources, but then again, what isn't? But they expressed them beautifully, they expressed them darkly, and they reaffirmed the childish awe we all had once when we started listening to this shit. Doing all of it without stagnating one bit.

Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega, for my money, are the two most influential BM bands of the last fifteen years. For better or worse, I don't think we'll be escaping their impact as long as this style of music persists.
Gore D sahib, when I mentioned BAN beats Dso at the game, I meant it with reference to moving unto the whole electro-industrial influences. BAN were far ahead of the rest of the entire bm scene when they released the spectacular "Ultima Thule" and with Work that Transforms, they completely metamorphised into the "alienated and on-the-fringe-of-lunacy" band as you refer to them. I cant help feel that Dso were definitely influenced by BAN some where down the line (Hell even the mighty Mayhem was on their Ordo Ab Chao album). With reference to hatred for the band's ideology, I dont have any (Infact Im quite fasci-nated by the whole orthodox satanism ideology). But I can tell you this far from other people, even the ex- band members hate them. Infact when I met Shaxul (Ex- Hirilion and Dso) and I asked him about Dso, he refer to them as "fucking Christians" hhehe. I guess it has something to do with changing the band ideology from anti-religious/ neitzschean ideology to "religious" satanism. Hehe np: Paracletus...
. And not to mention the new Weapon is so fucking good, I cant tell you! They are going to be a huge ass band very very soon!
