^No one did! Only 4 out of 8 finalists were present, out of which 2 were from Bangalore.
How can the organizers expect bands to pay for their travel and accommodation? Theek hai, its a huge thing. But wtf? National winners have to manage everything on their own to go to Germany? Ridiculous! :|

I do believe that apart from the main headliners, all the bands at Wacken get only stay and local transport covered.

Boss that's how Wacken has done it for every winner for every country that takes part. The bands knew this well in advance so whoever decided to play did so with full knowledge that they would have to bear the expenses.

Why would you back out due to "reasons"? Didn't you consider them reasons before taking part? Why would you ruin the chances of another band which could have made it?

And it's not at all ridiculous to be asked to pay for your own travel. It's a competition. If you don't wanna take part, sit at home. Or back out due to few reasons of your own.

Now I can't announce a global level competition and pay each band their fare to travel to my country from theirs. The terms were clear from the start.

Exactly. Perfectly put. I couldn't understand why quite a few bands backed out at the last minute. They knew well in advance what had to be done if they took part and by backing out at the last minute it was impossible for any other bands who were interested to take part.

Backing out is fine but to back out at the nth hour meant that no one else got a shot and in effect turned some of the preliminary gigs into a huge waste of time for everyone involved.

Why do organizers not tie these bands down once they agree to take part in a fest or a competition? Make them accountable for unprofessional behaviour. If they are held financially liable for their negative actions once having agreed to perform, I bet they stop pulling this shit.

No matter which industry you are in, a no-show is quite possibly the worst thing you could pull off. I wonder why Indian bands are able to get away with this bullshit. Make them pay, I say.
