Would be seeing this band in Mumbai in a few days. Any reccos? Haven't heard a lot of their songs, but from whatever I've heard they sounds like a mix of Porcupine Tree and Opeth. Obviously I could be wrong, but any good reccos? Opinions about this band anyone?

I heard one song which was charting in some EU countries. Sounded pop.

Get Viva Emptiness and The Great Cold Distance for starters.

Discouraged Ones is my absolute favourite Katatonia album. Their old stuff is mellow Doom at its best. Good, good stuff.

I wonder what sort of retards decide what band to fly down to India. I can count the people who listen to doom metal here on one hand.

I hope Katatonia has a good vacation here and get away without severe gastroenteritis.

^ Knowing that they are going to Mood-I, gastro is a sureshot.

On a different note, what I wonder is what do these bands think when an organizer approaches them and says, "Guess what? We have an awesome gig lined up for you to front. It's in INDIA at a college festival. *wink wink wide grin*!"

I am really really curious about their first reactions to that.

A lot of them are quite enthusiastic cause its an 'exotic' destination. I want to know why such a boring band was chosen when several interesting ones like Napalm Death and Nile for instance have evinced an interest in playing in India. But then I guess chick rock (incompetently disguised as melancholic melodic doom or whatever they call their wimpy warbling these days) is always going to be a much bigger drawn than either grindcore or death metal.

See, that's the thing, I don't think they put that much thought into it. They don't classify stuff as old school or thrash or DM etc., hell they don't even know if a band is rock or fuckin' metal. They just hear the word 'band' from some pimple-faced junior who talks like he's down with that band shit and they go off and book them. IIT has insane amounts of sponsorship monies, all in the hands of these jackasses. I mean, Katafuckingtonia? Are you kidding me?? Of all the fucking bands on the planet, these guys? I'm sure they're awesome at doom metal and all that, not taking away anything from them, but a doom metal band is a ridiculous idea. [/rant]

Damn all you doom metal haters! I curse you.

I hope Tool comes down next year to play and you get engulfed by a mass of pseudo-intellectual teenagers who believe Maynard is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. I curse you.
