You don't have much to choose from.
Macbook Pro - Pros: very good hardware. Cons: Expensive. Warranty is expensive as well. Service in India is a hit-or-miss.
Dell: Pros: VFM, excellent service that I can vouch for (if you buy the warranty, and you should). Cons: Ugly, Anything other than the xps is tacky.
HP: Pros: Marginally better built than the Dells. Cons: Service is a hit-or-miss.

Option2: This is what has been interesting me. Go for a desktop+netbook combo. Netbook for the mobility, and as long as CPUs and GPUs emit heat, nothing would ever beat a desktop. And you can get a much bigger and better screen.

P.S : In India, avoid Toshibas, Vaios etc.

True. But honestly the thought of a desktop or a net book is a major turn off. That's prolly coz my laptop is like a central command station and has everything I need or want. Switching between systems is too much work for me. :P

I have been thinking of Macs and Dells so we're on the same page. For me aesthetics are almost as important as performance and what's under the hood. 8-)

More on this later.

Try the mbp13, you might like it. Buy a larger screen later. HP has a 13 incher as well.
Your experience with HP was probably because of Hyderabad (different city). In Bangalore it's a nightmare. But yes, everyone should go through Dell service in India. Customer care is a little painful, but the actual service is second to none. 24-48 hrs flat!!

On topic though: http://xkcd.com/806/

^ I remember the Reliance Powersurfer guys stuttering and transferring me to their "manager" everytime I told them that I was using Debian Sarge.

HP hardware is pretty unreliable. And service sucks. To be fair, Dell service is also terrible unless you pay for the extended warranty/ complete cover. The extra dough's totally worth it though, I've had the guy come to my office and replace the mobo + heatsink while I worked.
